Todd Rundgren, Todd (1974)
I learned the hard way: Always check the sleeves when buying second-hand records. I picked up a copy of this only to find that record two was not “Todd” at all – it was some easy listening compilation. But record one is the real deal. So I have half of this great album only. And that shits me. And one day I will fix it. I have heard it all – I love Todd Rundgren – got obsessed with him when I found out the guitarist on the Meat Loaf album was also the producer of that great XTC record; was also the composer of the score for Dumb & Dumber and then of course was also – in his spare time – a fucking singular singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Fucking wizard. Truly a star. Here’s my interview with Todd from about 10 years ago. Was a hoot to chat with him – and I’m still going through his discography and finding so much magic.
