The Vinyl Countdown # 1776

The Beach Boys, High Water: a 2 record set (1973)

I seem to be a sucker for Beach Boys compilations. I’m really not sure why. Well, I love the band – sure, there’s that. But I have far too many “Greatest Hits”-type things from the band. You’ll often find things called Their Twenty-Two Greatest Hits or The Best Of The Beach Boys on vinyl, cheap. And I guess I’ve picked a few of them up because they are on vinyl, cheap. But I bought High Water recently because I plan on filtering out some of the trashy hits comps I have and because this looked/seemed interesting. It’s two albums packaged up as one double-set, as the album’s sub-title announces. It’s comprised, then, of Good Vibrations – a killer compilation LP, featuring that song (obviously) and God Only Knows, Heroes And Villains and a few others. Then there’s an album that was called “Wow! Great Concert” – this features a few of the band’s early gems such as In My Room and some really odd covers (The Monster Mash?) Hey, why not, right? Great fucking band!

Sample Track: I Get Around

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
