The Vinyl Countdown # 1702

Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, Soul To Soul (1985)

When I was getting in to Stevie Ray Vaughan this was the last of his original albums that I got hold of – but not for any reason beyond it being the last one that I found in a shop at the time. I became a fan after hearing/seeing the song/video, Cold Shot. My brother recorded it and introduced me to the song. We loved the video and the tune. And SRV was a big part of my education in blues guitar – I checked out all the great players he was influenced by, often because of the material that he covered (such as Earl King, from hearing this album). Soul To Soul has some strong compositions and some great interpretations. And though I could never pick a favourite Stevie Ray Vaughan album – I like all of them – this one certainly plays well all the way through, start to finish, from Say What! and Ain’t Gone’n’Give Up On Love through to Come On (Part III) and Life Without You.

Sample Track: Change It

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
