Gil Scott-Heron, Makaya McCraven, We’re New Again (A Reimagining By Makaya McCraven) (2020)
I’ll write more about this in a formal review – but this is the first brand new 2020 LP that I’ve bought in 2020. As soon as I heard it I was sold – helps that I liked the original source material and the first remix album too – also I’m a huge fan of Makaya McCraven, the remixer or “reimaging” artist here – his source material being the final album by Gil Scott-Heron. Huge fan of Gil Scott-Heron of course. And loved the first remix album to deal with this material (by Jamie xx). I bought this record the other week over in New Plymouth – could have been anywhere but I loved the shop and I wanted to get something to remember the trip. So this is it. It’s early days but this will be one of the best albums of 2020 I’m sure. I loved it as soon as I heard it. I’m so happy to have it on vinyl. To own it.
