The Vinyl Countdown # 1523

Dexys Midnight Runners, Searching For The Young Soul Rebels (1980)
My introduction to the band was seeing them in The Young Ones – turned me on to some cool bands, that. And then of course I knew Come On Eileen because it was everywhere. It’s a good song, it’s just been played out, over-played, done. But I got hooking on this album by Dexys Midnight Runners, more so than anything else by the band, because my brother always talked up the song Geno. He raved about it. When I heard it I liked it but couldn’t quite see the special ingredient in it that he heard. So I kept listening. It is a good song but I think I was baffled at how much he loved it. Not sure if he even still does but in the process I got hooked on the album. Great sounds, good tunes, and so much better than its watered-down New Zealand counterpart (The Netherworld Dancing Toys) – only just found this LP this week but I lost my CD copy many years back so was very pleased to find it. It has been an iPod favourite in most recent years.

Sample Track: Burn It Down

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
