The Vinyl Countdown # 1364

The Rolling Stones, Some Girls (1978)
Some GirlsAlways one of my favourite albums by The Rolling Stones. Currently my vinyl copy – with the proper/original sleeve – is hanging in a frame above the stereo; one of those clip-frames for vinyl, so you can change it out whenever you like. It seems like a good pic to have on the wall – and what a great record. Particularly the title track, the band strikes into a very good groove on this; Jagger is super-cool here, strutting and pouting and he pours himself into the song-as-exorcism/the song-as-boast. Lots of good songs on this – sure. But it’s the title track that I really clicked with recently and that sold me (all over again) on the album. Probably it remains the correct answer when thinking about the question of what is the last great Stones album. There actually aren’t anywhere near as many great Stones album as you might want to think. But there are a lot of good ones. This is the last of the great ones.

Sample Track: Some Girls

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
