The Shadows, 20 Golden Greats (1977)
This is a record you see everywhere, well, you used to see it everywhere – and by everywhere I of course mean second-hand book and record stores, garage sales, salvation army stores, junk shops and such. I inherited my copy. A friend of my folks. Actually he came to our garage sale and took away a copy of Midnight Oil’s Diesel And Dust for his collection – we told him to have it, no need in there being any money changing hands. He went to his car and returned with this by way of exchange. I accepted – because I didn’t already have a copy of it. And I figured I should have Apache and all those other great/naff/great tunes since the price was right. It’s only now, thinking about it – since I’ve forced myself to – that he must have been to another garage sale that day…at least one. I can’t believe I never really (ever) thought about that. Perhaps that was his trick, drive around with an old record by The Shadows and find someone to issue an exchange. Well, I’m happy enough to have it. My one and only garage-sale exchange.
Sample Track: Foot Tapper
