Hoodoo Gurus, Mars Needs Guitars! (1985)
I don’t know a whole lot about Hoodoo Gurus – but I guess all you really need to know is that they knocked it out of the park with their first two albums – and had some highlights after as well. I bought the first two albums on vinyl – as soon as I saw them – because I had them on cassette tape in my final years of high school. I had joined a band and I was the youngest member by about ten years; it was a real education – all this great mid-80s Australian pub-rock stuff that I didn’t really know at all, or wouldn’t have if not for this band. At least not then. I’d have got to it eventually. I always loved the first two Gurus albums. Still do. Don’t play them as often as I should perhaps – but man they got a belting back in the day.
