Rod Stewart, Blondes Have More Fun (1978)
This was the first Rod Stewart album I heard all the way through – at least I think that’s the case. It’s certainly the one I remember from my childhood. My mum had a copy – her sister had bought it for her. My aunty is a massive Rod Stewart fan. Mum wasn’t all that keen on it – but she’s warmed to Rod over the years. And now she’s a fan. The rot had set in by this album – but I still like this. Obviously there’s the big hit Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? With thanks to Carmine Appice there. But there are some other okay songs – and if the songs aren’t a patch on his best stuff he’s still in good voice I reckon. I’m saying all of this only because I remember this record from my youngest years. I’d take anything from that first half-decade of gold, of true magic, over this any day. Of course I would. But I still give this a spin now and then – I’ve got the copy my mum had when I was wee.
