David Bowie, Stage (1978)
You know I only got hip to this album when it was reissued on CD a wee while back now, maybe 10 years ago or so. I hadn’t heard it before then. I knew a lot of the material, obviously, but not these versions. I had plenty of David Bowie albums by then, all the studio albums pretty much but it was interesting to hear this. I like it. Great band, great selection – he’s in the middle of his Berlin set of albums here so the setlist does focus on the latest stuff (at that time) but there’s a throwback to some Ziggy-era stuff too. A bunch of great songs he’d all but said goodbye to. So – for its time – it’s a great concert set. I picked the LP up just recently. I’m doing a Bowie DJ set soon. Not sure what, if anything, I’ll play from Stage. But good to have the excuse to pick up the vinyl anyway, always loved the double-CD, played it a heap.
