The Vinyl Countdown # 1283

Biz Markie, Weekend Warrior (2003)
Biz Markie Weekend
I heard this shortly after it was released – I think a friend was sent a copy along with a bunch of discs; a friend of his from the States used to send over music. And it became an instant favourite. It’s filled with good humour and great flow – as Biz Markie kicks on about Chinese Food and somehow manages to take Little River Band’s song Reminiscing and make it, um, wonderful! And, so, yeah, the album’s a laidback party really, nice driving music, great strolling-around-town music and now, finally, I have it on the format where I can’t at all do either of those things. It’s still an iPod favourite but it was a great find picking up the double-vinyl recently. So many great songs, great guests, cool production, I don’t really listen to a lot of hip-hop these days, I come and go with it really. But this album is one of my favourites – from any genre – across the last decade. Just a lot of fun. But with great hooks, and some great rhymes from the Biz.

Sample Track: Friends

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
