Fleetwood Mac, Mystery To Me (1973)
Well it’s a nice feel-good story I guess, that Christine McVie would go back on stage with Fleetwood Mac – shame she had to sing Don’t Stop but then that’s what a Fleetwood Mac gig goer in this day and age would expect. It’s nice she and the band gave the paying punters what they want but it sent me back to this album – a terrific record, one of many that appeared (or rather seemed to disappear) when Fleetwood Mac was between ids and aesthetics and it’s sad to me – still – that this period seems so forgotten/misunderstood. So many great songs and albums from this period; a great era to check out – certainly supports any claims that McVie did more than her share of the heavy lifting. Even when she wasn’t writing the most songs on the album she was almost always contributing the best stuff.
