V/A, Angel Heart [OST] (1987)
It’s pretty easy to fall under the (dark) spell of this record. Brownie McGhee and Bessie Smith tracks – that wonderful score from Trevor Jones (the man’s a genius) and memories of the film, a sinister, evil, powerful film. Only seen the film the one time but whenever I play this record (a fair bit lately, in both excerpts and all the way through) I’m reminded so powerfully of the movie. The dialogue snippets that weave in and out of the music here help remind of the story. I’ll watch it again one day no doubt – but in a sense I watch it again every time I hear this. A great soundtrack – an album that seems to exist in its own bubble, telling its own story (one tied to the film, naturally).
Sample Track: Johnny Favourite (Trevor Jones)
