V/A, Dr Demento presents: The Greatest Novelty Records of All Time Volume 4 – The 1970s (1990)
It’s funny being reminded of what a novelty song Randy Newman’s Short People is/was. I mean I like it – it’s a good song, but I’d take almost anything else by him over it. Still, you don’t expect to find it in this company, lined up with “songs” by Cheech and Chong and “Weird Al” Yankovic and Allan Sherman and so on. And it stands head and shoulders above the songs here, a better song and less funny (though more bite perhaps). I bought this comp recently because it’s got the Time Warp on it; a handy thing to have on vinyl, I figure (until I find the actual Rocky Horror soundtrack). And it’s a lot of fun actually, plenty of great tunes on here. Including all the horrible ones. Good on ya, Dr Demento.
Sample Track: Pencil Neck Geek (Classy Freddie Blassie)
