Jeff Beck, The Best of Jeff Beck (1978)
Big Jeff Beck fan here, I’ve got most of his stuff on vinyl – the Jeff Beck Group/s and the solo stuff, this “best of” is mostly the first group, and the early singles credited to him as a solo act, ropey singing and all. I’ve got a heap of Beck compilations – many of them dodgy, the same/similar tracklisting and different cover images. I bought this for two reasons – firstly (mainly) because I had the tape and it was a favourite, it was early on in my Beck appreciation. And secondly when I interviewed Jeff Beck (one of my favourite interviews, The Listener commissioned a 2500 worder, go figure!?) I bought a few records, things I hadn’t got around to collecting on vinyl as part of the “research”. The thing about the early Jeff Beck stuff is it’s almost – almost – double-value in that it works as a kind of Best Of Rod Stewart.
