The Vinyl Countdown # 1175

Dexys, One Day I’m Going To Soar (2012)
dexys soar
I’ve always been a fan of Dexys Midnight Runners – in and out of fashion, and, probably, in the time that I’ve been a fan they were never really in fashion. But I was curious to check out the new album by the band now known as Dexys – their first record in some 27 years. And I was pretty quickly hooked on it. I borrowed the CD from the library first, because I was tentative – wanted to be able to walk away from it if it was a monstrosity. (It so easily could have been – and I get that some people out there probably think that it was/is). But a couple of listens and I’d heard enough to know I wanted to spend some time with this. So I bought the double-LP. Truth be told I’ve listened to the accompany CD more than the two LPs – I put the CD in the car, figuring I’d give it the odd spin. It’s now never far from the CD player. And that’s because two-year-old Oscar loves it. Well, he really just loves the album-opener. We have it again and again – but the whole family’s hooked. We all sing along to it. Some of us even know the words. We get an A+ for enthusiasm at any rate.

Sample Track: Incapable of Love

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
