Chris Farlowe, Out Of Time – The Best of Chris Farlowe (1978)
When I first heard Chris Farlowe I was bitterly disappointed. That’s because I was expecting The Rolling Stones. As a fan of the TV show Tour of Duty – and its soundtrack album/s – I was expecting to hear The Stones’ version of Paint It Black instead, on the soundtrack album I got a version by some dude called Chris Farlowe. It was a fucking insult. And then I heard another Stones cover by him – Out of Time. But you know what? That version was kick-ass good. (Better than the original?) I checked out a few more songs by him – all covers. Lots of Stones covers. And some of them were fantastic. A great voice. I went from being bitterly disappointed to thinking that actually he was kinda great.
Sample Track: Handbags & Gladrags
