Serge Gainsbourg avec Alain Goraguer Et Son Orchestre, No. 2 (1959)
I really don’t have a memory of “discovering” Serge Gainsbourg – nor did I “grow up with” his music. Sylvie Simmons’ bio was formative, but I read that having already experienced some of the music; I think Serge was simply a name that was mentioned so often – particularly in music-writing (bios, mags) that I had to take the plunge. This album was bought recently, partly because I love Serge but mostly because I love Lovage’s album, Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By with its album-cover homage. I’m glad I bought it – a 10in numbered release (No. 2526) it’s still in great condition, plays well, has some great songs on it. And that cover. A good find all in all.
Sample Track: Le Claqueur De Doigts
