James Gang, Live In Concert (1971)
I love Joe Walsh – solo, and in all the bands – and I remember seeing footage of The James Gang on a rock-doc way back, just a few seconds, and I thought they sounded amazing. I had a best-of CD and various Walsh compilations but this is the first James Gang LP I have. And here’s the story – I bought this a couple of years ago in America. I was digging through this massive store and found this for $2 – it’s in great nick too. I had just (the day flying out) written up an interview with Joe Walsh. He was great to talk to. We talked about his time in New Zealand – and how much he loved NZ, felt a special connection. It just seemed funny/right to find a Joe Walsh record as the first LP I discovered on that trip to America. That trip was the start of a new life for me in many ways, I cut out of full-time work, took first steps towards starting/developing this website. And then, as is sometimes the way, I just never really listened to the album after buying it. A live rock album – it’s not always the thing you feel like listening to. So I’ve only just started in on this now – and I’m really glad I picked it up.
