Buddy Holly, The Buddy Holly Story (1959)
Golly gee, this arrived at the right time – been reading a bit about Buddy Holly in the latest (wonderful) book by Greil Marcus and found this LP in my collection. Well, when I say found – I knew it was there. I have a few hits comps from Buddy – but this one arrived recently, a gift from a friend. Turns out this was the first posthumous comp, apparently. Didn’t know that. But what I did know – and still know – is whenever you listen to any Buddy Holly collection (I had a double-CD that served me well for years, did the trick, always lit up) is the lack of duds and the amount of magic that he created – the sheer amount – across such a small amount of time. There was a guy that had two minute pop songs (inside rock’n’roll clothes) down to a fine art. In fact he was one of the people that made it a fine art. Great stuff.
Sample Track: Raining In My Heart
