Boz Scaggs, Hits! (1980)
I almost never feel the urge or need to listen to Toto but when I do I’ll listen to some Boz Scaggs. This compilation might only cover a small amount of what he’s done – it might be all you need to know, or two much for you – but I reckon it’s a pretty great little snapshot of a few years (end of the 70s) when Boz was bubbling up. I’ve not entirely stuck with him – but he’s continued to release some strong material (I check in now and again) and though I’m not the hugest fan at all I do like a lot of the stuff on this compilation. Boz is a great singer and a decent guitar player, a very fine musician – I go back to that album of standards he released in 2003 – But Beautiful. It’s a really gorgeous set of songs, great versions. And I dip back into this comp now and then too.
