V/A, Las Vegas Grind (1995)
I first found (out about) these compilations when I was working in a music store – that shop had inherited all the old stock from a previous music store (I had worked in that store too). So it was this weird déjà vu thing where I returned to find my own appalling handwriting in places and spaces nearly a decade on. And I found the Las Vegas Grind CDs – these were a hoot. We used to play them when closing up for the night. The boss – the owner – would come in and hand around a joint (I never partook – not then). And we’d put on this strip club rock’n’roll and garage R’n’B. Good times. Anyway, I found the CDs when I went back there and played them a bunch – bought the three that were still there. And now I have this record – and a couple of others in the series. It’s all good fun stuff – perfect fodder for the crate. Good get-the-party-started and/or end-of-the-night stuff. You find a new favourite every time and that’s how it should be with compilations on vinyl. A new favourite track each time you spin it.
Sample Track: Peter Gunn Twist (The Jesters)
