Long Gone EP
They released one of the best albums of 2014 and this follow-up special-edition 10” vinyl tour EP is another feather in their cap, Charlotte Kemp Muhl and Sean Lennon go from strength to strength as their GOASTT moniker continues to house alluring, wonderful music – it’s proud pop music with just enough of a psychedelic edge.
Sure, Lennon will never escape the comparisons to his dad, and his voice certainly recalls John, the opening title track here, a cover of a Syd Barrett song, could have come from Cold Turkey/Yer Blues/Come Together Lennon Snr. But if anyone else could get this close to that sort of primal rock’n’roll sound they’d be duly applauded. The Ghost duo achieve that rare feat of making their version of Long Gone sound like their own song and a loving tribute to the source material and original writer.
From there though it’s the originals that really stand out – Dark Matter with its gorgeous melody and Brand New World Order with a feel similar to the very best work Liam Finn has offered up in his duo work with EJ Barnes.
Delilah would appeal to those enamoured with the more recent offerings from Liam’s collaborator and buddy James Milne (aka Lawrence Arabia).
The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger had an amazing 2014 – supporting Beck, touring the world and hitting it out of the park with first the full-length album (Midnight Sun) and then this sure-to-be fan-favourite EP.
