I always love finding a New Favourite Album of The Year that comes from way back – this year my favourite album of 2018 not released in 2018 is – easily – Japan’s Quiet Life (released in late 1979). I have never listened to Japan. I’ve heard about the band, read about the band, thought to check them out often enough – without ever doing it.
It’s just a wonderful record. One for all moods and any time of the day. One I can’t believe I had never quite got to before. But it’s great to finally get there.
I’m going through the book, 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, and playing all of the albums I haven’t (previously) heard. It’s a pointless goal, but it’s my goal…
