The 1001 Albums Challenge # 60: Earth, Wind & Fire – “That’s The Way Of The World”

There are some bands you know about, you like – maybe you’d even say you love them – but all you know is the Greatest Hits album, or the big singles. And for me Earth, Wind & Fire is a great example of this. I’ve known about them my whole life – I’m sure my dad had a cassette tape in the car.

But The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1 is really the only thing I know by the band. September is my jam. Their version of The Beatles’ Got To Get You Into My Life is my jam. Actually, turns out, most of the things I’ve heard by this band…are most definitely a part of my jam.

And so – to finally hearing That’s The Way Of The World. I know some of the songs already – but man, what a kick-ass album. The all-killer type. I believe it was the best-selling R’n’B album of its year (1975) and one of the best selling pop albums. Well, no surprise.

I need to give a few more albums by the band a whirl…oh, actually, I just remembered, I had heard one other EWF album, though it’s really a Melvin Van Peebles album I guess: the soundtrack to Sweet Sweetback’s Baadassss Song. That’s super good. Well, I won’t take it so long to follow up now.

I’m going through the book, 1000 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, and playing all of the albums I haven’t (previously) heard. It’s a pointless goal, but it’s my goal…
