Funny that I’d never heard this album because I’m a Waylon Jennings fan – and also, about 15-20 years ago I got pretty hooked on country and in particular the whole outlaw movement, of which this album is key.
I also got right into Billy Joe Shaver’s works – as a writer, in particular – and that’s the main songwriter here.
So…
A nice treat to get to this – some really great perfirmances, and songs, dripping with honky-tonk feel and sentiment.
Hard to argue with those weepy old steels, moanin ol’ organs and gut-strung fiddles now.
