I’ve never really listened to Mott The Hoople – I mean sure, I know their big David Bowie-penned hit, because, frankly who doesn’t?! It’s great too. And I’ve listened to a bit of what Ian Hunter has done since – including covering his old band. But I guess I’ve just never really listened to them because…Mott The Hoople is a totally stupid name. It’s unacceptable! And that’s a shame – because there’s some great music there. I know that, only know really, because not only have I delved right into this (terrific) album – but the others too.
This challenge, and having to listen to this album in particular, made me want the full context of the band. And I like a lot of what I’m hearing.
But it’s possibly too late.
I don’t know if it’ll stick – if they’ll remain any sort of favourite. But for right now I’m glad at least that I did the delve.
This album, Mott, released after David Bowie “saved them” – features a lot of songs that sound like they want to be All The Young Dudes parts 2, 3, 4, 5, et al…
And that’s just fine by the way.
