The 1001 Albums Challenge # 42: Flamin’ Groovies– “Teenage Head”

downloadFlamin’ Groovies – a simply kick-ass band that I only know about through compilations. For some (odd) reason I never followed through, never went looking for the albums. Well, that’s what this book – and this challenge – is about I guess.

So here we have Teenage Head, the band’s third album. Released in 1971. They’d been around a half-decade or so before this with their debut out in 1969. And certainly here is where it’s all fully clicked in. In fact they’re better at doing The Rolling Stones than The Rolling Stones by this point. More sizzle, more boogie.

In a lot of cases in the 1001 Albums book I’ve noticed third and fourth albums being featured. Bands would never have that chance now – to have an impact; even waiting until a third or fourth single is too late. A shame. Good things come to those that wait right? I mean I waited 46 years or so to hear this. Admittedly the first five or six at least involuntarily…

I’m going through the book, 1000 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, and playing all of the albums I haven’t (previously) heard. It’s a pointless goal, but it’s my goal…
