I heard the song Groovin’ many years ago – perhaps first aware of it because of the Tour of Duty soundtrack album (a hell of a source, meant a lot to me – still does) and it probably popped up on a few other similarly-themed comps of that era. But I can’t say I ever felt the need to investigate The Young Rascals. I heard a few other songs – and never had any issue with the band at all. Just never delved. And isn’t it funny when you finally do…
I guess, and I’d have said this already, that’s one of the points of this challenge. Finally hear the things you forgot about or never knew.
This is the third Young Rascals album. And by all account their best – with some hit singles and some great album tracks too. A very easy-to-listen-to/easy-to-like affair. You can hear some R’n’B and even some influence from blues listening but really it all ends up feeling like a set of pastoral pop tunes with some slight psychedelic hues.
No issue with that at all. And am glad to have heard it. Have given it a few spins. And will likely give it a few more.
