This is the sort of straight-up banger that makes me pleased I signed up for and carried on this ridiculous ‘Challenge’. Here I am going through old albums I missed at the time. Mostly finding gems. A few duds. A few ‘who really cares’, a few ‘you had to be theres/time/place’ but mostly finding gems…then there’s something like this. You’d almost kick yourself at wasting/losing time…
But I don’t feel too bad. I love Gang Starr and know their work, and I followed both Guru and DJ Premier outside and away from Gang Starr too (Guru’s Jazzmatazz – Oh man!) but all I ever owned by Gang Starr was the two compilations – Mass Appeal and Full Clip.
I mean, yes, yes, you can sorta spot/remember the time/place of this sort of music – but in the scheme of hip-hop I find this to be pretty close to timeless.
The good juice. A must.
Glad to have finally made it.
