I’ve been listening to plenty of Nanci Griffith across the last two decades, but I’ve never gone all the way back…several of her early albums elude me including, until now of course, this – her fourth full-lengther (released back in 1986).
She’s so on point as writer and singer, her sad/wise stories of heartbreak and small-town woes; big-picture framed though. Always.
This from the second-to-opening song here,
Hey, dance a little closer now
Dance a little closer tonight
Dance a little closer to me
Hey, it’s closing time
And love’s on sale
Tonight at this five and dime
That’s just the start of good things with this record, the sublime Love At The Five And Dime.
This has been getting plenty of spins – and will continue to.
