Sweetman Podcast: Episode 129 – Suzanne Vega

Welcome to episode 129 of Sweetman Podcast with support from our sponsors – T Leaf T, Yeastie Boys and La Petite Chocolat. Here I talk with one of my all-time musical heroes, Suzanne Vega. We are in a hotel restaurant and there is some background noise. Just a warning. What a thrill to meet her and speak with her. I flew […]

Gig Review: Suzanne Vega (August 8, Wgtn)

Suzanne Vega Opera House, Wellington Wednesday, August 8 For her New Zealand shows it was just Suzanne Vega and long-serving bassist Mike Visceglia. I say just because it was the full band that performed in Australia, at wonderful shows celebrating the respective 30th and 25th anniversaries of the Solitude Standing and 99.9F Degrees albums.

Gig Review: Suzanne Vega (July 28, Sydney)

Suzanne Vega Enmore Theatre, Newtown; Sydney, Australia Saturday, July 28 Suzanne Vega is celebrating the 30th and 25th anniversaries of, respectively, the albums Solitude Standing and 99.9Fd. Or as she explained cleverly at the start of the show, selections from the albums. No fear of a trick though, that meant most of each album – […]

Anyone reading this will know I’m such a huge Suzanne Vega fan. So it’s huge news – to me anyway – that she is going to be playing two shows in New Zealand in August this year. I’ve already booked tickets to see her play in Australia in late-July. I’ll return home with the chance […]

Songs of Her Life, Songs For My Life: The Great Songs of Suzanne Vega

I’ve been listening to Suzanne Vega since I was ten years old. The songs that everyone knows are Luka and Tom’s Diner. These songs have held up well – Luka might suffer from a very-1987 guitar sound but it’s an incredible piece of pop songwriting. A song about child abuse is one thing – a […]

The Vinyl Countdown # 1720

Suzanne Vega, Solitude Standing (1987) This was the first Suzanne Vega album I heard – and then the first I bought on vinyl. It’s something of a favourite – although I like all of her albums. This was the introduction though – with those two big songs; still the biggest two songs of her career, […]
