I’ve loved doing Sweetman Podcast for the last five years. And I hope to keep it going. It earns absolutely nothing and I rely on the goodwill of an editor/producer friend and of course the time that guests are willing to offer. It takes plenty of my time too of course – so it’s labour of love stuff. And I’m not for a second complaining. It’s made me even more obsessed with podcasts – listening to a great range by some of the hundred million other podcasters out there – and delivering a weekly episode has been a great deadline and discipline; one that is not without a certain anxiety at times.
When the lockdown happened in the middle of 2020 I took a break from podcasting. With the uncertainty thrust upon us I didn’t want to wrestle with Zoom recordings and phoners and working out how to deliver weekly episodes. I didn’t think anyone would be listening anyway. There are loads of episodes in the bank and loads of other podcasts by the hundred million other podcasters anyway.
So I took the first break in the life of Sweetman Podcast.
And after the lockdown I got back to posting weekly episodes right up until the week before Christmas. So, sum 40+ episodes still in 2020.
I’ve decided to take the summer off – and I’m not sure exactly when I’ll start up again. Probably in early February. This was something I decided back in early December. And I’m not under any delusion that there’s concerns about this or anyone desperate to even read whatever this post is…but I’m just thinking-through-writing here…clarifying the summer-holiday break.
I’ve grabbed a couple of new recordings, I’ll hopefully get a couple more. I have a small handful of episodes in the can – including two fully edited and ready to go, I could upload them right now if I wanted. They’re pretty good eps too I reckon. One is with the writer, businessman, teacher and prison-reform educator John Wareham. The other is with Radio Active’s breakfast host and freelance journalist, Maggie Tweedie.
So they’ll be among the first eps to go up when I return to the format.
Once again I’m missing podcasting – but it’s good to have a break. Hopefully I can continue to attract guests through 2021. But in the meantime there 243 episodes of Sweetman Podcast the most recent of which, the last of 2020, is with Murray Cammick.
If you’ve read this far you’ll be pleased to know that in early February you will no doubt get to hear those podcast episodes I mentioned up above. And also one with musician Jeremiah Ross (aka Module) and one with singer, actor and arts administrator Mere Boynton. And also…
Well, after that your guess is as good as mine.
But I hope to bring you some good shows once again.
Happy Holidays. Or if you’re back at work already then I hope you had a break and enjoyed it.
