For just the third term – in six years – Sweetman Podcast is having a cuppa tea, and then a lie-down. Level 4 lockdown doesn’t make the kind of podcasting I do at all possible. Plenty of podcasts in the sea, maybe far too many – and a lot of them are so good at delivering video content or capturing Skype/ZOOM calls – but I never wanted to do that. I’ve served up the odd phoner, sure, but less than 1% in total. My podcast is about meeting someone face to face – either at my house, their house or a third location. Green rooms, backstage, in a public space, walking around town, in a slightly crowded cafe or bar…these are all ‘third locations’. Some better than others.
But when the new announcement of a level four lockdown turned up last week I knew I had a podcast I could send out – funny timing actually, it was basically Bonus Content – he says, optimistically/euphemistically – it was a public talk I gave last year at a writers festival.
Anyway, that one aside, there are now 270 options – 270 conversations to listen back to, to catch up with, or possibly hear for a second time.
This labour of love will hopefully continue after lockdown – and who knows, if we are in lockdown a while maybe I’ll end up doing a video one or two. But I can wait. And I have one in the can ready to go. So that’s enough to get me started again in a week or two. Or three…
Until then. Enjoy the break. I’m going to. Although I always miss it terribly as well!
And look after yourselves and be kind and stay safe. Check in on your mates and have patience in your home.
