Well it’s episode eight of Sweetman Podcast now – my chat with Mel Parsons. Mel popped around to the house at the start of a promo-round to plug her late-October/early-November tour with Julia Deans. She was fresh from being a finalist in the Silver Scrolls and has recently released Drylands, in my opinion her finest album.
So we talked about all of those things. And we talked about songwriting, and the way she arrived at music – and then the pursuit of the job of being a musician, all those gigs (the days of the $50 gig) – and we talked a bit around that, about her experiences touring with the likes of Anika Moa and what she’s learned from watching her and from watching Don McGlashan and many other talented writers and players.
Parsons will be performing in Nelson, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch (all shows with her full band and with Julia Deans supporting). She’s well worth checking out – so see there for dates and enjoy this conversation between me and Mel.
