Welcome to the fifth episode of Sweetman Podcast. This one is a chat with Stuart Coupe, an Australian music writer. His most recent book is Gudinski – The Godfather of Australian Rock’n’Roll (it’s a fantastic read). Coupe has written reviews, features and PR, he’s been an artist manager (Paul Kelly) and worked with record labels. He has two weekly radio shows on in Australia currently – check out his site for all his goings on and he’s great to follow on Facebook.
I was over in Sydney for a couple of days and gave Stuart an email a few weeks in advance – I’d met him once on a previous trip. The book was on my mind, and I knew I was catching him right in the middle of interviews and hard-sell PR shilling. So the timing was perfect.
You’ll hear some sounds out the open window, once or twice a plane flies over (we figure it might even be Michael Gudinski checking in on what we’re saying about him…)
Coupe has so many great stories – he’s met many of the greats in music, he continues to promote (and discover) music with that same passion that turned him onto rock’n’roll and punk in his early days as a fan and then as a critic.
