Sweetman Podcast: Episode 44 – Blink (Ian Jorgensen)

ian_blink

Welcome to episode 44 of Sweetman Podcast – my conversation with Ian Jorgensen (aka Blink) – you can find out about his various pursuits under the A Low Hum banner at his website. He started out as a photographer, from there to making magazines, creating a record label, organising tours and promoting shows and then to writing books and essays about the music industry and now lecturing a Massey University course in music. Add to this his legendary Camp A Low Hum shows/festivals and various other shows and events tagged to his Blink/A Low Hum branding.

I met Blink nearly 20 years ago, we were both out on the hunt after midnight chasing boy racers down for a story. We were in a car with a guy in the know – Blink was taking photos, I was doing the writing. A year or so on from there I wrote a couple of pieces for his A Low Hum magazines. And from there we’ve seen each other at gigs and of course on Facebook. We’ve had many conversations over the years but this was an epic one. Naturally, with all of this stuff to talk about we sat down and gassed about U2 for 5-10 minutes…

I hope you like my conversation with Blink.

You’ve found this via the link on Facebook or Twitter and/or from the Off The Tracks website – it’s hosted at Soundcloud and to receive the episodes before you even get to these show notes you can subscribe on iTunes. You can also rate and review the podcast there. Sweetman Podcast has been brought you by Phantom Billstickers for the second half of the year 2016 with support also from L’affare and Yeastie Boys. Great to hear some of the backstories – the ‘zine, the cds, the tours, etc. I think I have the “A Low Hum” issue with the Buda article you did.
