So it’s just the second international guest to date in the life of Sweetman Podcast – episode 17 is my chat with American blues guitarist and singer, Chris Cain.
What a great pleasure it was to sit down with Chris and talk through his life, his influences, his passion for playing. More than once, as we spoke in his hotel room, he’d gesture to the
guitar in its case, a prop at that point, resting against the door. And he would speak of it as if a friend, so lovingly.
You’ll get to hear some snippets of Chris’ playing during the podcast. I first saw him some 10 years ago on one of his earliest trips to New Zealand. I became a fan then and there. I’ve been checking out his records ever since, seeing him on some of his return trips, he’s here twice a year these days. This is his second trip in just a few months and this week he’s playing a couple of gigs with Rodger Fox and band in what is billed as the US/UK Connection with Roy Phillips of Peddlers fame joining also.
So Chris and I talked about his connection with Rodger. But we also talked about meeting early heroes such as Albert and B.B. King.
I hope you like our chat. We are intro’d today by my son Oscar. It’s his first time recording for the podcast. He’s four years old. And he loved it. He wants to do more. So, look out…
In other podcast news – we’re still on Soundcloud but you can now also subscribe and access the podcast via iTunes. And we have our first sponsors. My thanks to Yeastie Boys and L’affare for providing the beverages to help interviewer and interviewee through these conversations.
I hope you like episode 17 of Sweetman Podcast, my talk with Chris Cain.
