Sweetman Podcast: Episode 163 – Yadana Saw

Welcome to episode 163 of Sweetman Podcast with support from our sponsors – T Leaf T, Yeastie Boys and La Petite Chocolat.

Now – as you probably know, as well as the usual platforms (this site, soundcloud, iTunes/Apple) you can now get to Sweetman Podcast on Spotify– follow it there and have it saved in your Spotify library.

Here’s a chat with Yadana Saw – she is the host of RNZ’s Music 101. We talked through her obsession with music – a life of fandom that has moved from interest in student radio and activism to hosting RNZ’s flagship music show.

She’s also a regular guest and contributor to the RNZ podcast Song Crush.

Yadana and I have no idea how or when we first met – beyond knowing lots of the same music and working in related fields. I’d been keen to have her on the podcast for a while and here we talked through her earliest attempts at radio and right up to present day where, just recently, in the wake of that awful terrorist attack in Christchurch Yadana and the Music 101 team presented a show of their regular programming within 24 hours of that atrocity.

We also talked a bit about interviewing and reviewing and Yadana took me to task for my “review” of Aldous Harding.

We spoke too, of Pip Algie, former program director at RDU and now a registered music therapist. She’s a mutual friend and was an early guest of the podcast.

It was great to connect with Yadana. I really enjoyed our conversation and  I hope you do as well.

Here now is episode 163 of Sweetman Podcast, my conversation with Yadana Saw
