Sweetman Podcast: Episode 115 – Fane Flaws

Welcome to episode 115 of Sweetman Podcast with support from our sponsors – T Leaf T, Yeastie Boys and Le Petite Chocolat.

Here’s a chat I had with Fane Flaws.

This was a great conversation – and it was a long time in the making. I hadn’t met Fane, we’d corresponded, I grew up listening to Blerta and The Crocodiles, was aware of his recent band No Engine and other musical and artistic projects (The Bend, making the opening credits for Radio With Pictures, a bunch of music videos for iconic kiwi acts, children’s books, painting). I knew he’d be great to chat with for the podcast – he didn’t disappoint.

But we had a few false starts – Fane is based in Napier and so when I’d return home to Hawke’s Bay for the holiday I’d try to book a time to meet up. It took a few goes, but was worth the wait.

This conversation was eventually recorded over Easter a month or two ago…

I was at Fane’s house – and it was also the annual Crochet Group lunch. So I ended up there for the afternoon, surrounded by talented, interesting people and supplied with fun conversations and terrific hospitality.

We snuck off to his studio to record this conversation and you’ll hear a bit of background chatter, some records playing, a few of the other visitors end up in on this podcast, even if only fleetingly.

But we got to survey Fane’s various career entry points and highlights. He’s a mighty talent and a fun guy to share an afternoon with – I look forward to further conversations with him, but for now I hope you enjoy this almost as much as we did.

Here is episode 115 of Sweetman Podcast, my conversation with artist and musician Fane Flaws.
