Sweetman Podcast: Episode 114 – Roy Brown

Welcome to episode 114 of Sweetman Podcast with support from our sponsors – T Leaf T, Yeastie Boys and Le Petite Chocolat.

I had a chat with Roy Brown – he’s a Hawke’s Bay musician and runs the legendary venue, The Cabana.

Roy’s own music career has seen him record albums as part of bands and as a solo act, he’s a piano man in bars and continues to work as both a solo performer and as part of bands, mixing covers and originals. He’s been a working musician across much of the last four decades.

He’s also a mental health advocate – he’s worked tirelessly, sharing his story and helping others.

He’s now in hospitality but has also worked in retail.

We talk about all of this – from Hawke’s Bay to Auckland, to Melbourne, and back to Napier.

From playing on the stage at the Cabana to running the venue. It’s celebrating its 60th Anniversary across this month and next with a bunch of great shows.

Roy once met his hero, David Bowie.

So we had to talk about that too.

I loved this conversation and I hope you do too.

Here is episode 114 of Sweetman Podcast, my conversation with musician and venue-owner Roy Brown.
