Apologies for the break…it’s been a few (extra) weeks between shows but I’m back now with episode ten of Sweetman Podcast – my chat with Alice Brine. Alice is a Wellington-based comedian. I enjoyed her show with Daniel John Smith and after a brief introduction I was keen to talk a bit more with her, convinced she hadn’t arrived at comedy – as a performer – in the same way I had, as a listener. An obvious point perhaps, but one I wanted to discuss. So that’s what this podcast was about. It’s also about comedy writing and reviewing, about the ‘scene’ and such.
Alice talks candidly about her life, shares bits of her routines and we had some fun nearly-arguments.
The conversation recorded for this podcast took place before Alice was announced as one of the nominees for the 2016 Billy T Award. Congratulations to Alice.
(The part where we discuss Ronda Rousey was related to my reading of her autobiography, her defeat at the hands of Holly Holm, in UFC 193, was still off in the future at the time of this conversation).
It was a fun chat with Alice – from hosting podcasts and comedy nights, collaborating and writing, as well as working “a real job” she’s super busy. And I wish the best for her. And continued success.
