Now – as you probably know, as well as the usual platforms (this site, soundcloud, iTunes/Apple) you can get to Sweetman Podcast on Spotify – follow it there and have it saved in your Spotify library. It’s on most of the podcast platforms besides the ones mentioned here.
This week’s episode is a little different – I spoke with my good friend Matthew Pender – his band OdESSA recently reformed. And we do talk about that – but really this conversation is about Prince. It’s about Prince’s influence and Matt’s Prince fandom; it’s about how our friendship is a direct consequence of our mutual Prince fandom.
And this conversation was planned to take place now – in the wake of last week’s anniversary; five years on since the death of Prince.
And last week as part of my Sounds Good! Substack newsletter I wrote about Prince fandom five years on from his death and included lots of clips and links and playlists…
And now – capping a bit of Prince reminiscing we have this conversation. We go deep into Prince highlights and lulls, into our favourites and other fan-favourites and we talk about our experiences of seeing him live – different shows in different countries at different times. We do break off to talk a bit about Matt’s music, the return of OdESSA – but this one is really our shared love-letter to Prince.
So if you’re not a Prince fan at all I both pity you and understand why you might want to give this one the skip. But for the rest of us, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called Episode 255 of Sweetman Podcast – my conversation with Matthew Pender on Prince.
