Sweetman Podcast # 240: Lucy Roche

Welcome to episode 240 of Sweetman Podcast with support from our sponsors – T Leaf T and Yeastie Boys

Now – as you probably know, as well as the usual platforms (this site, soundcloud, iTunes/Apple) you can now get to Sweetman Podcast on Spotify – follow it there and have it saved in your Spotify library.

This week’s episode is a conversation I had with comedian Lucy Roche. I didn’t know Lucy at all but I had seen some of her comedy online and attended a show where she was the headliner. So I reached out to her for a chat – and she was keen. And then it took a month or so to organize, as it often does. But we met up, fairly recently, and recorded this chat.

When not doing comedy Lucy is a sex-worker. We talked about her other job because she talks about her other job sometimes as part of her act.

I was also interested in the idea of a person with two jobs that were both compromised by the Covid-19 lockdown.

We also talked mental health and structuring jokes – what you can joke about these days, and what you shouldn’t. And what the ‘rules’ around all of this.

It was also interesting to me to explore the differences in how people come to comedy – particularly now with Netflix comedy specials, YouTube fail videos and Facebook memes a near-everyday part of our life vs. the days of video store rentals and late-night TV on occasions…

I enjoyed this chat. I hope you do too.

Here now is episode 240 of Sweetman Podcast – my conversation with Lucy Roche.
