Now – as you probably know, as well as the usual platforms (this site, soundcloud, iTunes/Apple) you can now get to Sweetman Podcast on Spotify – follow it there and have it saved in your Spotify library.
This week I talked with Jackson Nieuwland, poet and librarian and new bookstore owner, author of the book I AM A HUMAN BEING.
I recognised Jackson from being a regular at Wellington’s libraries but this was our first time meeting. I loved their book so much that I wanted to meet and speak and get their story for the podcast.
We went in deep – talking basketball and hip-hop and depression. We talked about writing and Jackson read a few pieces from the book which you’ll hear throughout the chat but we also talked about how the writing came to be, how Jackson found themselves (a writer) through various online communities and via a year at Vic Uni’s IIML.
We talked gender and non-binary and I was hopeful my questions and comments were respectful even if naïve. I’m here to learn.
I felt this was a deep and rewarding conversation and I’m an even bigger fan of Jackson’s work as a result of this conversation. I really enjoyed it. And hope you do too. Lots in this talk. And you can check it out now.
This is episode 236 of Sweetman Podcast – my conversation with Jackson Nieuwland.
