Welcome to episode 232 of Sweetman Podcast with support from our sponsors – T Leaf T and Yeastie Boys
Now – as you probably know, as well as the usual platforms (this site, soundcloud, iTunes/Apple) you can now get to Sweetman Podcast on Spotify – follow it there and have it saved in your Spotify library.
This is my third conversation with Darren Watson. We focus on his brand new album, Getting Sober For The End Of The World. In fact we go through it track by track, you’ll hear a snippet of each song – and some discussion of each song. The album is available to purchase from Bandcamp now. And you can click my link above to read my review of this fantastic record.
Darren’s a mate and he was the first ever episode of this podcast. I shudder to think back to how nervous and inexperienced I was if you click that link. But I know Darren’s always been an erudite interviewee and a great conversationalist. You’ll hear far more of his background in that first episode if you’re new to him or missed it at the time. A couple of years back we spoke again for the podcast (that was essentially to plug and promote his then-new album, Too Many Millionaires). Millionaires and Sober seem very closely aligned to me; the two most similar albums in his catalogue.
Darren is one of just two three-time guests to date (the other being Emily Writes).
It’s always nice to have a chat with Darren – whether recorded or not. We got into some good stuff about music, writing, mental health, sobriety, coping. The joy of creation. The reason to make art. The compulsion. The conviction. I hope you enjoy listening to this. And do check out Getting Sober. His best album (so far). Due to the move to level one only taking place after this conversation was recorded some of the tour dates have been cancelled – but for full tour news click here.
