Here’s a conversation I had recently with Ben Brown. He’s a writer and performance-poet based in Lyttelton. And I reckon he should be NZ’s Poet Laureate. This was my first time meeting Ben but I love his work. I don’t know when I first started reading his work but I love his poetry, he’s also written a gripping memoir, stories for children in both the School Journal and in book-form as standalones and there’s plays, film scripts and more memoir either in the pile to be completed or out in the world already.
Ben’s a great performer too. A brilliant reader of his work.
So when he was in Wellington recently I caught up with him – it was in fact our first time meeting, but we follow each other on social media and have corresponded. We sat outside and chatted as the world walked by and seagulls swooped.
I loved this deep conversation about poetry, addiction, family. This deep conversation about life.
And now I hope you enjoy this conversation too. This is episode 225 of Sweetman Podcast – my conversation with Ben Brown.
