Sweetman Podcast # 200: David Kilgour / Hamish Kilgour

Welcome to episode 200 of Sweetman Podcast with support from our sponsors – T Leaf T, Yeastie Boys and La Petite Chocolat.

Now – as you probably know, as well as the usual platforms (this site, soundcloud, iTunes/Apple) you can now get to Sweetman Podcast on Spotify – follow it there and have it saved in your Spotify library.

I hope you had a great Christmas and all the best for the new year – here we are at episode 200 of Sweetman Podcast. Of course I never thought I’d make it to 200. Of course I wanted to make it to 200. And yes, the only plan for now is that there’ll be an episode next week and one after that and on through January of 2020. That’s as much as I have planned. Hopefully I can keep up the motivation and find some great people to share conversations with and from across all of 2020. That’s the hope – for sure.

But let’s get to episode 200. The first ‘split’ ep of the podcast.

This is two separate conversations – firstly with David Kilgour and then with Hamish Kilgour. You know them from there work as 2/3s of The Clean. They both have solo careers, they make guest appearances, they have worked with many local and international legends.

Late in 2019 they were both on tour around New Zealand at the same time with very different shows. So I took the opportunity and collected these two conversations.

David and I spoke backstage at the San Fran one afternoon just ahead of his soundcheck. You’ll hear venue manager Ziggy bringing us in a cup of tea.

We spoke for just over 40 minutes and this is the first half of the podcast episode.

Less than a week later Hamish was in town with his band for a show at Meow. I attended the show and there was a possibility we’d talk straight after it – but that changed to the following morning. A breakfast bloody mary and a bit of chat off-tape and then we found an alleyway to the side of Glover Park and stood against a building to talk for just under 40 minutes. You’ll hear building works and traffic all around us. I think I only asked Hamish one single question really.

It was so great to finally meet both the Kilgours. I had written up a phone interview with David a couple of years back and Hamish provided me with a wonderful guest-post after some email-interviewing. But this was my first time sitting and chatting with the Kilgour brothers.

I hope you enjoy hearing this. It’s my great pleasure to have these conversations as episode 200.

Here now is episode 200 of Sweetman Podcast – my chats with David and Hamish Kilgour.
