Here I had a chat with Fifi Colston: “Freelance Creative”. You name something to do with the arts and Fifi has done it or has an opinion on it. She not only has the T-Shirt, she probably made it, bejeweled it or was called in to create an early design for it.
I first met Fifi years back when we were both on the Good Morning TV show together – she’s even there in the scene where Newsboy sets up host Brendon Pongia to make it look like he has farted. Twice.
But this was the first time that Fifi and I sat down for a chat – all about her life and work. She’s been involved in the arts all her life and wouldn’t want it any other way. She’s been a freelancer, an independent contractor, with skills in and experience in illustration, design, sewing, crafts, writing, comedy and many other things.
She’s worked on TV as a segment presenter for both Good Morning and What Now – has written and illustrated books for kids, has published novels and scripts, is a regular competitor (though she hates that word) in the World of Wearable Arts – entering most years and sometime with more than one design. She’s tried her hand at stand-up comedy, been an extra in films, worked as a seamstress, costume designer, you name it…
And so I wanted to talk to Fifi. And talk we did. This is one of the funniest and most inspiring conversations I’ve had and heard about creativity and working in – and with – the arts. I loved this chat. And I really hope you do too.
Please enjoy my conversation with the inimitable Fifi Colston.
