Dean Chandler released his debut self-titled album back in 2003. He has a career away from music now – but still turns out to play some covers for fun (and sometimes money). However, in 2003 the self-titled debut album by this relative unknown featured contributions from Emmylou Harris, Larry Campbell, Norah Jones, Buddy Miller, various members of the Norah Jones band and was produced by Brady Blade.
It’s a wonderful story – how did this happen? I wanted to get it on tape.
I knew Dean at the time – we both worked at The CD Store. It’s been about 15 years so it seemed a good time to revisit this story.
Dean and I sat down recently to talk about the tenacity, luck, timing and good fortune of that time. And then the album disappeared, ran its course, was possibly sunk even by bad reviews. We talk through all of this. And you’ll hear clips from the album – or visit the link below to hear the whole thing.
It was great to catch up with Dean and to capture this story. I hope you enjoy hearing it too.
Here now is episode 186 of Sweetman Podcast – my chat with Dean Chandler
